Building Resilient Irish Coasts through Oyster Restoration: A Nature-Based Solution for Enhancing Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystems
About the project
This project will advance knowledge on the potential for restoration of native oyster reefs in harbour environments. In particular, the project aims to evaluate how native oysters can be act as a nature-based solution (NbS) to benefit Harbours and Ports through increased sediment stabilisation, and enhance and improve biodiversity and ecosystem services, particularly in relation to the role that these species play in habitat provision, promotion of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, alongside their buffering capacities for predicted climatic change scenarios.
The BRICONS Project (Grant-Aid Agreement No. PBA-BIOD-24-11) is carried out with the support of the Marine Institute under the Marine Research Programme, and funded by the Government of Ireland.
